Semester:
Fall 2021
Type of Project:
Typography / Branding
Objective
The objective for this project was to create a brand
identity based off exploration of a poem in a foreign
language. Once we know the meaning of the poem,
create deliverables for the brand that fit the brand
identity. The poem that I was given was in Hebrew.
Concept
For this project I experimented with the letters in the
poem trying to create them in different ways. Once I
found a style that I liked, I created patterns using the
letters and created a variety of designs. I used that as
a base to start exploring the poem and what my brand
would be. I created the brand Simcha (Sim-huh) which
in Hebrew means happiness. The poem was about
loneliness so my brand would be about spreading joy to
others. The deliverables for this project are items that
can be used to not only remind yourself to stay positive
but also spread that positivity to others.
LENGTH
Our family tree has not
sprouted many branches.
Flocks of
single women
sat on them
like on single narrow
single beds.
Aunt Anna and Aunt Leah
picked apples
for strudel filling.
The dough that swelled
and swelled in the nights
they rolled out flat to the length
and width of their loneliness.
Crumbs of the days were scattered
among the birds.
